SEO and inspiring people

First lecturer on Monday was Terhi Aho from Tulos. She is the Tulos' SEO consultant. That means that she consults different companies about SEO. She came to talk to us about SEO and content marketing. Content marketing is marketing where you create and share media and publish content. SEO is search engine optimization and it means the progress of affecting the visibility of company's website in search engine's unpaid results. Mrs Aho told us also about the importance of email marketing.

How email marketing works?:

1. First it raises awareness

2. Possible customers do information research about the subject

3. They considering buying the product/service

4. Some customers buy it

5. Then some of the customers stay as a customer and buy again

Lastly she showed us an inspiring quote from Thomas A. Edison:

"I have not failed.

I've just found 10 000 ways that won't work."

Second lecturer of the day was Joanna Purosto from Myynnin ja markkinoinnin ammattilaiset (MMA). She does all kind of marketing in her job. She told us for example about the thing she would have wanted to know in school.

The three things were:

1. Network as much as possible

2. Digitalize yourself

3. This is just the beginning..

"The end is often the beginning.." and Joanna Purosto

Our task this week was to perform Hubspot’s Marketing Grader –tool for our partner company and two competitors. We used a similar tool which we thought was clearer and easier to use. The we had to write three most important things to do in order to get the ranking up. We (surprise surprise!) made a video. But actually an animation this time. It took a lot of time and effort to make it but I think it turned out good.

On Thursday Ilkka Kurkela was lecturing us. His three subjects were people, marketing and integration of sales and marketing. First he told that it is important to have people in our lives. They inspire us in different situations. Then he told us about marketing. Mrs Kurkela told us that it is important to know your customers. Another important thing is that companies know why they are better than others. It is a basis of everything they do online. We were shown another quote. This time it was by Matthew Luhn from Pixars.

"Quality is the best business plan."

He also told us about United breaks guitars -case. The company lost millions of dollars because of it. It was really interesting to hear about this case. Then there is a question that is every publicity good publicity? Yes they lost a lot of money but now more people know about them. But it is not the best kind of publicity of course. The last thing he told us about was marketing and sales funnel.

This is how it simply works:

--> digital marketing

--> phonecalls

--> meetings

--> offers

--> "the moment of truth"

--> web presence

--> trust

--> references, recommendations and testimonial

Lastly it was Bishnu Rana's turn to talk to us about lead nutrition. It means the process of building effective relationships with potential customers (lead) throughout buying journey. Why lead nutrition? Well it changes the buying journey because of computers. How to create? It should be trustworthy, relevant, multi-channel and strategic & impactful. He also told that by 2020 85% of the customers will manage their relationships without talking to a human. I think that is is weird to think about it. It has always been that you have to talk to people when you want to buy something. Really interesting!

There is one more task that I need to do. I have to choose five blogs (from my classmates and outside my group) and write in my blog something what they have written: an idea, a learning, a point of view. I have to give positive and constructive feedback to those bloggers in your my blogpost. I decided to choose five blogs that were put on facebook first. They are:

First blog is by Taru Venäläinen. She has developed quite a lot in her blog. First the texts weren't that long but now she has longer texts with good ideas. And she also has good pictures! One constructive feedback might be that maybe she could tell more about the content of lectures.

Joonatan Virta is the owner of the second blog. First he didn't have that much pictures in his posts but he has added more of them which is a good thing. He was quite long posts but the blog's layout could maybe be a little more creative.

Third blog is written by Krista Juva. I like that she has an introduction of herself on her blog's front page. She has really good post with a lot of text and great pictures! Krista uses uses her blog both for school purposes and her own personal purposes. So there might be diary-like posts which might not be so "professional". It is not a bad thing but maybe she should have two different blogs. But that's just my opinion!

Then it is Nelli Kukkapuro's blog's turn. Her blog's layout looks creative and it is interesting to look at it. She has developed too and lengthened her post's texts. Also there are nice pictures in Nelli's blog. I have to give something constructive feedback and maybe her posts could be a little wider. They are really narrow now.

The last blog is by Niina Havilehto. She is the only one of the five who uses Wix. Her blog looks creative and beautiful. All of her posts are creative too. I like how she has arranged her pictures. She tells well about lectures' content which it a good thing. Some of the texts could be a little bit longer!

Lastly here is a cute picture of a frog to make your day a little happier!
