First week impression

Our school started on August 31st. We had had an option to choose our own groups where we are going to study and complete given tasks. There are five people in my group. Me, Linda Knuutila, Nelli Laurila, Mira Niemi and Camilla Fagerström. We have had almost the same group last spring and I think that we are going to work well together again. We like also have really fun together. Our digital coach, Faysal Hasan, shooted some great pictures this week about us. Here is a great picture that he took! If you ever need a professional photographer, I can recommend him.

First lecture was mostly about digital services and digitalization. One of our mentors, Anna Ikonen, explained that digital service is "anything that can be delivered through an information infrastructure such as the internet". Ilkka Kurkela also explained these things to us. She also showed us a very interesing web site called Internet Live Stats that shows how incredibly digitalized our society really is nowdays. Here is a link to the web site http://www.internetlivestats.com/ .

She also told about five IT megatrends in the information age. You can see them below.

She also teached us about three key driving impacts of globalization.

TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE

Computing and communication platforms, global patent and copyright laws.

CULTURAL CHANGE

Multiculturalism from media, international travel, ethnic foods.

ECONOMICAL CHANGE

International trade, global finance, labor outsourcing.

There was an interesting thing when Mrs Ikonen pointed that many people are being left behind in the informational age. There was also a quote "Digitalization will change the world more in the next 20 years than it has already changed in the last 20 years". What does this mean to the changing world? And in my future? It will be very interesting to see what is going to happend.

We were given group tasks at the end of the lecture. We had to think about our future in 2020 and how is it going to be different. We decided that we didn't want to do a boring PowerPoint presentation that we always do. We decided to do a video where we acted. Our group shooted and edited the video in two days.

On Friday we had a lecture about blogging. Mentors and digital coaches teached us both. It was surprising to find that blogs are the third most influential digital resources for purchasing orders! Later when it was presention time we volunteered to show our video in front of the entire class. We had made kind of risky decisions so we were kind of nervous. But it was totally worth in in the end. Mentors said that our video was really good and we were really proud about what we had accomplished. We truly learned a lot this week. Also about our skills and what we can do. What a great start!

Lastly, here is a link to our video that we made. Enjoy!
